Managing credentials securely is crucial for any organisation. Azure Key Vault provides a robust modern solution for storing secrets, keys, and certificates securely.

I always find it beneficial to deploy something first in the portal before using a tool like Terraform. This approach helps me understand what's being created and ensures I know exactly what I need to replicate when I start writing the Terraform configuration. By doing so, I can better visualise the resource dependencies and settings.

In our latest video, we explore how to set up Azure Key Vault with RBAC using the Azure portal, an essential skill for ensuring your data remains protected.

Overview of the Video

The video begins with a brief introduction to Azure Key Vault, highlighting its importance in managing sensitive data securely. We then demonstrate the process of setting up a Key Vault through the Azure portal, focusing on:

  • Resource Groups - Creating and organising your Azure resources effectively.

  • Key Vault Creation - Naming and positioning your Key Vault for optimal performance based on your geographical location.

  • Pricing Tiers - Understanding the cost implications of different Key Vault pricing tiers.

  • Role-Based Access Control (RBAC) - Configuring permissions to manage who can access and control the keys, secrets, and certificates in your Key Vault.

  • Networking Options - Configuring access restrictions to ensure only authorised IPs have entry.
